No. of Participants: 23 Monash University Malaysia Leo Club members and 200 Monash students and staff
Background:
Recycling Awareness Campaign was organized to raise awareness among students and staff of Monash about the correct ways and importance of recycling in conservation of our environment. This event also aimed at showing various ways of reusing and turning wastes into decorative items.
Hence, a lantern-making competition was organized and the main rule of this competition was to use recyclable and reusable materials to make the lanterns.

show the various ways in which waste can be reused and remade into decorative
items
Details :
Voting for the top 5
lanterns from the top 8 lanterns submitted was conducted on all 3 days of the
event. On 9 September, a prize-giving ceremony was held, the top 5 winners were
announced and prizes were handed out to the participants.
Exhibition
and some games based on recycling were carried out in order to raise awareness
about recycling. Small prizes were given out to the games participants. Besides
that, Monash Green Representative Network (GRN) participatedin this campaign by
helping in collecting recyclables from students andthey also conducted a survey
to know where are the prime places where recycle bins should be put on campus. Categorization
of recyclables collected from Monash campus and Monash GRN club during the
campaign was carried out on 13th of September and the recyclables
were sold to a recycling company-Epistar Industry. A total of RM341 was earned
by selling the recyclables, which was used to cover the expenses of the
campaign and the rest are to be donated to Global Environment Centre.
